There are many people who have either committed crimes or were falsely accused of one and found guilty that might benefit from a pardon. Not everyone of course deserves a shot at a pardon, for instance those who are repeat offenders. But what about those people who either were truly innocent and now have to carry the burden of a felony on their shoulders for the rest of their lives. When applying you are going to need a lot of documentation, this may vary from state to state and it also may depend upon the crime you were found guilty of. The basic documents needed are recommendation letters, they will usually want two or three of these. They can be from friends, members of your community, former prison guards, people you worked with when you were in rehab. You will also need a copy of your criminal history which has been certified.

You will also need a copy of the arrest record and the report, both need to be certified. You also need to include certified copies of the indictment, your judgment, the sentencing process for your conviction you want to have pardoned. You can get these documents for the court.

Make sure that all of these documents are organized in the manner that is required by the state you are in. If there are no requirements listed then put all of the documents in their own folders and date them in the order of the document dates and then put them in order of their dates. Then put these folders in a larger folder that is like an accordion.

Next you will need to write your letter to ask to apply for your pardon. If there are no guidelines from your state on what is required in the letter then it is important that you go with a standard business format. In this letter you will need to explain your charges and why you believe that you deserve a pardon. You must be totally honest and list all the facts supporting the reasons why you feel you have earned a pardon.

Make copies before you mail them to the state. You should mail them certified and request that they have to sign for the documents when they arrive.
